Lets talk about that trailer

So by now everyone in the Destiny community has seen it. All the big YouTubers and bloggers have broken this thing down MANY different ways. Well guess what? We’re doing another one! Sadly I would have loved to be on time with the rest of them but life happens. Anyway lets hop into this and I’ll give a light breakdown with some thoughts on what it all means. Big thanks to all the peoples in the Destiny discords I’m in that helped with my thought process.

So lets start with the…Elephant in the room, and boy did people waste no time in thirsting. (as of writing this Bungie has confirmed she is 9'10". Making her taller then RE8’s big vampire mommy)(never thought I’d write that):

Pun Intended

This is the first we get to see of the Princess Caitil, daughter of Emperor Calus and one of the ones that helped overthrow him. Needless to say, lots of family issues. But that’s not the point! She’s been teased for a while now and we finally get to see her in action. Granted on the other side since Zavala doesnt want to bow to anyone (I mean, it makes sense. The cabal brought the tower to its knees once, hes not going to let them do it again). With the basic story set up (Caitil offers an olive branch at a price to high for Big Z, now we blah blah cabal on Mars) we get to see some action.

And boy do we get some action. The seasonal event is something called “Battlegrounds” and, to what should be much fanfare, its matchmaking! A nice addition as someone like myself didn’t want to bug my clan every time I needed to run a hunt. Personally, I think its some kind of “horde” mode (or “firefight” for us OG halo fans) and honestly, I’m here for it. If the trailer is any indication its going to be some fast paced mode, a huge difference to this seasons wild hunts, an activity so boring most couldn't even find time for a 30 second sword cheese.

Big Z’s war room. Complete with war table.

As for how we start these missions, welcome to: the H.E.L.M. A vanguard staging zone complete with seasonal vender, vault, and postmaster. I feel like this is the start of our new social area: The New Tower (we’ve technically not been in the tower but just a wall for 4 years). This was unexpected because, as far as I know, new zones (especially social areas) have never been added in a season before and are normally saved for big DLCs. Hope to see them add to this area in coming seasons.

Fire bow go *thwip*

On to the loot. The best part of Destiny. Lets be honest for a moment, sunsetting sucks. Bungie had the chance to do it right and they didn’t quite get it. No point on dwelling on the past though, cause since sunsetting in BL, we’ve had 2 bad ass exotics(the lament and hawkmoon) and, admittedly, a sub par showing of legendarys (i think a total of ~30 weapons over a DLC, Raid AND season). But with the new season? In JUST a season alone, we are getting 25 weapons added to the pool. Yes we are getting re-caps of moon and DC weapons as well as some D1 weapons coming back (a win in my book, people have been asking for more D1 weapons) but I think over all its a step in the right direction. Bungie may be trying to fix some of the problems with sunsetting with the re-issue of moon/DC gear but we will have to wait and see. Pair that with the Umbral Engrams returning (don’t nerf the drops that much please) and the god rolls with be flowing to all of us.

One of the other surprises they had for us was a NEW strike. We knew we were getting 2 D1 strikes back but I felt like that couldn’t be everything (event now I think there is a lot we don’t know) and the “Proving Grounds” strikes sounds super cool.

Caw Caw

Towards the end of the trailer we get a scene with Zavala and Caitil and a hooded guardian.

Its crow. I mean, look at him, there’s a freaking bird on his chest.

Our new light is looking good while working for (or maybe AS?) the vanguard. Say what you will about the whole “Crow/Uldren” fight, our boy is here to stay. The whole point of being a guardian is getting a second chance. Personally? I was 100% sure that my guardian shot Uldren in his dumb face. But Crow? Hes just a new guy with an unfortunate face (for once, the helmet says on is probably a good thing). One last thing on Crow, at the time of writing this my discord group is trying to decide if that gun on his hip is Ace. Didn’t think about it at first but….the color is right.

On to the last part of the trailer we got (I’m not talking about the armor right now. Its been meme’d to death already and when it comes to armor if the stats are good, well, there’s always ornaments (I think it looks cool if you were curious)) which is the “ship floating in space scary” trope. Now I know I wasn't the only one that watched that in super slow-mo trying to catch the quick flash image:

Boo!

So, long story short, I think this is a new dungeon coming out mid season (I have proof that I thought of that LONG before the other Destiny guys. Take that byf and kackis). It would be cool to find an old ship from Calus’s fleet that was overrun with scorn. As someone who loves running prophecy every week I cant wait for a new dungeon (I’m a raider main so dungeons are my love cause they are just smaller raids)

So there you have it. Another trailer breakdown from a random internet person. I know at this point in the day nothing I’ve said hasn’t already been said by the big guys but I still wanted to write this. Maybe you found something in here that you didn’t find in the big boys videos. maybe you prefer the “written word” still like myself.
